Refined Facade Cladding for Boutique Bayside Living
Hampton Hill Apartments
Designed by Woods Bagot for Lowe Living, Hampton Hill is a boutique residential development of 32 apartments in Hampton, Melbourne.
The architecture takes a restrained and contextual approach. Brick and masonry form the base of the building, grounding it within the existing streetscape, while refined metal cladding elements at the upper levels introduce a lighter, more sculpted expression.

The Crown Jewel Penthouse Facade
At the penthouse level, the building transitions to a finely detailed architectural crown. Sculptform Click-on Cladding in the Fineline and Edge profile, powder coated in Scintillating Champagne, wraps the upper facade and terrace area.
From the street, this refined metal layer gives the building a distinctive presence. Up close, it was designed to be experienced at a more tactile scale by residents occupying the expansive penthouse terrace.
To ensure a consistent finish, the cladding was installed using Sculptform split mounting tracks, allowing installers to make adjustments on site so the cladding sits perfectly flat across the facade.
Timber Character for a Coastal Setting
Throughout the building’s entry and balcony soffits, the design team sought to introduce the warmth of timber to reinforce the project’s bayside identity.
Rather than traditional timber, which presents challenges in multi-residential and coastal environments, the architects specified Grey Gum Wood Finish Aluminium Click-on Cladding in the Shadowline profile.
This delivers the visual texture of timber while addressing the performance demands of the site, including exposure to wind, rain and coastal conditions.
The wood finish soffits soften the architectural language of the building and connect visually with the landscape planting that now cascades from the balconies.
Cohesive Interior Connection
A key aspect of the Hampton Hill design is the seamless transition between exterior and interior spaces. At the entrance lobby, Sculptform’s Grey Gum Wood Finish Click-on Cladding extends across the ceiling plane, reinforcing the warmth and tactility introduced externally. This continuity ensures that the building’s coastal character is not limited to the facade but carried through to the resident experience at a human scale.
Beyond aesthetics, the interior application demonstrates a high level of technical resolution. The feature ceiling incorporates neatly integrated building services, allowing lighting, sprinklers, and ventilation elements to be seamlessly embedded within the cladding system without disrupting the visual rhythm.
This level of detailing aligns with best-practice approaches to feature ceiling design, where coordination between trades is critical to achieving a clean architectural outcome.
Collaboration from Concept to Completion
The Hampton Hill project reflects the collaborative process between architect and manufacturer, from early specification through to installation and delivery on site.
This support extended to onsite installation, ensuring the cladding systems performed exactly as intended in a challenging coastal environment.
Architecture that Settles into its Place
Since completion, Hampton Hill has begun to embed itself into the life of the Hampton community. Retail spaces along the ground floor have reactivated the high street, while the residential levels above now overlook a landscape that continues to mature.
The building balances refined architectural detail with the relaxed character of Melbourne’s bayside suburbs. Carefully selected materials, streamlined cladding systems and collaborative delivery helped translate the original design intent into a built outcome that performs as well as it looks.
Quality Installation and On-Site Support
The successful delivery of the Hampton Hill facade, ceilings and soffits relied not only on product design, but also on high-quality installation and on-site collaboration.
Sculptform’s Click-on Cladding system was installed using split mounting tracks, allowing for fine-tuned adjustments during construction. This flexibility ensured that the cladding remain perfectly aligned and visually consistent, particularly across the highly exposed penthouse facade where flatness and detail are critical.
