Architecture and Cultural Identity – Inspiration From Indigenous Heritage

This live studio event uncovered the fascinating design of New Zealand’s Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre Precinct and explored the role of cultural identity through architecture.

Special guests for the discussion included Bruno Mendes, Principal at Woods Bagot, Puamiria Parata-Goodall, Director at Te Pakura, Claire Nunez, Technical Director – Heritage at Biosis and Bob Barton, Director at MALA Studio.

Design Thinking and Collaboration Principles in an Architectural Context

Presented by White Light Education’s Christian Duell

Christian discussed his nonlinear journey from architect to design thinker, complete with practical tasks to help develop a collaborative mindset. Attendees became equipped to apply design thinking strategies to produce better outcomes in the architectural setting. A range of Sculptform case studies where shared, focusing on how architects and designers can utilise their supplier connections within designs.

Friends of the Industry: Munro Site, Queen Vic Markets Renewal

An opportunity to learn about one of Melbourne’s most significant landmark developments and a key feature of the renewal of the Queen Victoria Market Precinct. Keynote speakers from Six Degrees Architects, PDG Corporation and STREAT shared exclusive insights into this exemplar council development and how the project drew on values of sustainability, health and modern design, with the market’s legacy and Melbourne’s laneway culture serving as major points of inspiration.

International Women’s Day: A Wellness Afternoon

Our special guest Sharon Bassat, founder of Willow Urban Retreat, shared her inspirational story and her tips on achieving success and balance. Workplace Interiors: What will bring us back to the office in 2022?

Our hybrid event format tied in well with the topic of discussion of hybrid working, connecting an Australia wide audience combined with the studio experience. This conversation with industry leaders – Bronwyn McColl, Woods Bagot and James Calder, ERA-co gave an insight into their work to craft an exceptional and holistic employee and customer experience.

Facade Design: Considerations for Thermal Performance

Covering changes in the NCC and the common misconceptions in relation to thermal bridging, this webinar covered the latest studies into existing homes, with a detailed breakdown on the facade systems available.

Space Orienting to Place: The Melbourne Airport Journey

Presented by Dean Latham and Malgorzata Haley, Associate Principals of Grimshaw, this talk discovered the elements that allowed the physical space of the new T2 terminal at Melbourne Airport to orient visitors to the city of Melbourne. Focusing on the design and delivery journey, of how wayfinding elements were incorporated to provide a more comfortable, safe and enjoyable airport experience.

The Sound of Spaces – Understanding Acoustics in Architecture

This talk provided a practical overview of the design of spaces for sound and how these aspects are integrated into holistic design responses. Delivered by industry experts Dr Peter Holmes and Ben Percy, they spoke about the qualities that well-considered acoustic design brings to architecture.

Placemaking – Design for keeping cities alive

Placemaking inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of every community. It strengthens the connection between people and the places they share and is a collaborative process by which we can shape our public realm to maximise shared value.

We launched our updated Click-on Cladding system, with our new series 2 profiles and offered expert advice on building facades. Pro Clima, an expert in weather resistant and airtightness systems, joined us to reveal how to detail a water-tight facade. Valuable information for any designer!
