Australian projects win global architecture awards
The winners of the World Architecture Festival Awards have been announced recently, with two projects using Sculptform products coming away as winners.
Australia was well represented at the tenth World Architecture Festival (WAF) awards this year, with over 50 entries, the second most number of entries behind China. The WAF awards cover thirty-two categories and are announced at the festival, with over 2000 of the worlds leading architects in attendance. Running in conjunction with the WAF is the INSIDE World Festival of Interiors, which celebrates some of the globes best Interior Design.
Sculptform is proud to have been involved with two projects who won awards at the WAF and the INSIDE Festival of Interiors –
Maitland Riverlink
Winner of Civic and Community – Completed Buildings award at the World Architecture Festival Awards
Congratulated by the judges for its clarity and simplicity, Maitland Riverlink establishes itself as an example of world-class architecture in regional Australia. Architects CHROFI and McGregor Coxall create what they describe as a ‘sculptural gateway’ between the city centre of Maitland and the underutilised Hunter River.
Click-on Battens were used on the soffit in Blackbutt, matching the aesthetics of other materials while providing the natural look of timber.

““The timber, when the colour fades, will look similar to the light coloured brick from a distance giving the building a more singular appearance. The materials also provide a human scale; the tactile materials invite a visitor to touch the building and the precise angles of the walls, ceiling and floor, twist and distort the central space, to subtly slow movement through.””
Australian Embassy Bangkok
Winner of Civic, Culture & Transport category at WAF’s INSIDE World Festival of Interiors
The Australian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand combines elements of the Australian and Thai environements to create an atmosphere which reflects the connection between the two. Architects BVN were applauded for “making a great connection between the urban fabric and the public space with a great transition between the Australian and Thai elements” by the judges of the INSIDE World Festival of Interiors Awards.
The outer of the chancery building is designed to reflect the Australian outback, with stunning red brickwork. Exterior walkways between the buildings use Spotted Gum Click-on Battens to create a natural aesthetic and contrast the concrete forms.
The interior of the Australian Embassy uses Click-on Battens in Blackbutt to create a stunning curved feature wall and ceiling. Custom profile battens were created to fit the unique design intent of the project, lining the curved walls of the open atrium.
