A connective space

The atrium area in the centre of Padua College creates a large, open space that connects several floors. The vertical timber battens draw the eye upward, while a decision to use different timber species creates a dynamic aesthetic.

Baldasso Cortese chose to use three different timber species, each on a different level of the atrium walls and ceiling, White Oak, Blackbutt and Vic Ash. These timber species look similar, however small differences in colouring and grain patterns provide variation between sections.

Our unique Dome profile

Sculptform Click-on Battens in 42x42mm dome profile were used creating a beautiful softer appearance due to the round face. The battens even extend to the ceiling, continuing the textures from the walls.

Sculptform Supply & Install

On the Padua College project, Sculptform both supplied and installed the timber battens throughout. Our internal project management team handled the installation of our product, including complicated sections like the atrium and triangle ceiling features.

A benefit of our supply and install offering is that we take the role of a passionate collaborator, working with both the builder and the architect. Finding a balance between budget, design intent and build-ability is often a challenge, but we are experts in value management and taking advantage of the flexibility of our systems to meet all requirements.

Panelised Installation

A unique feature of the Padua College project is the triangular patterned feature ceilings, using the predecessor to our Click-on battens system – Concept Click. The battens on the ceilings create triangular shapes and continue the light, timber aesthetic from the atrium into other areas. Integrated lights add another dimension to this clean, angled look.

To save time on installation, the triangular shapes were constructed off-site. Panelised installation for features like this allows us to save on labour cost, passing that saving onto the builder. This method also allows us to correct any defects before the product gets to site, and ensure each triangle was identical.
