Alder Castle was transformed as a modern workplace that combines historical charm with forward-thinking design. Located in the heart of the city, the refurbished building features terraces, green spaces, and flexible workspaces designed to support wellbeing and connectivity.

Sculptform elevated the space with FSC-certified Click-on Battens, showcased throughout the double-height reception lobby. The sweeping timber walls embrace visitors with warmth, creating a striking and memorable first impression.

Natural Warmth with American Oak

American Oak Click-on Battens were chosen to complement Alder Castle’s contemporary, welcoming interior. The dome-profiled battens, arranged in a repeating seven-row pattern, create symmetry and a subtle shadow effect across walls, enhancing the visual experience. High-quality timber also contributed to durability, making it ideal for busy reception and waiting areas.

Design Confidence Through Responsible Materials

The Click-on Battens are made from FSC-certified American Oak, ensuring the timber is sourced responsibly. Treated with HR Prof fire coating, the battens achieve a Class B-s1-d0 fire rating, meeting high-level compliance requirements while preserving the natural warmth, durability, and aesthetics of the timber. This balance of safety and design provides a solution that contributes to environmental care and enhances workplace wellbeing.

Flexible and Curved Installation

To achieve precision and fluidity in the reception area, a combination of standard and curved mounting tracks were used, allowing the battens to wrap seamlessly around corners with ease. The dome-shaped battens echoed the project’s design language, complementing the curved reception desk, flowing wall lines, sculptural lighting and soft-edged furniture. Together, these elements created a cohesive visual rhythm that enhanced the sense of movement to the workplace.

Fast and Efficient Installation

At Aldercastle, efficiency and precision were key drivers in the installation process. Timber battens were supplied in carefully measured set lengths, allowing installers to work quickly while maintaining strict design accuracy. To achieve a seamless, consistent finish, the battens were staggered in placement, creating a refined rhythm across the wall.

To further streamline the process, each batten length was colour-coded before delivery. This clear visual guide reduced room for error, enabling installers to immediately identify the correct sequence and position, resulting in a flawless and efficient installation.

Biophilic Design and Urban Wellbeing

The space was designed to integrate biophilic design through timber battens, abundant natural light and greenery, creating a calming and welcoming arrival into the reception area. The battens add warmth and texture while the foliage brings nature indoors. This approach fosters healthier, more enjoyable workplaces while enhancing productivity, supporting both employee wellbeing and a positive visitor experience.
