At Sculptform, we continuously seek innovative and sustainable solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers. As part of this commitment, we are excited to introduce Grandis timber as a replacement for Australian Ash. Here are the key reasons behind this significant shift:

1.  Sustainability and Certification

One of the primary reasons for transitioning to Grandis is its strong sustainability credentials. Grandis is a plantation-grown timber, ensuring a consistent and renewable supply without impacting natural forests. This species is also 100% FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, guaranteeing that it is sourced from responsibly managed forests. By choosing Grandis, we reinforce our dedication to environmental stewardship and contribute to the global effort of conserving natural resources.

2.  Aesthetic and Functional Qualities

Grandis, a native Australian Eucalyptus species, offers a familiar grain pattern and structure to our other Australian species. Its beautiful blonde/rose tone adds a unique aesthetic appeal to any project. Additionally, Grandis stains and coats exceptionally well, providing versatility in achieving desired finishes. We also offer coatings to tame the rose hue if preferred, ensuring that the timber meets diverse aesthetic preferences.

3.  Adaptability to Changing Local Supply Conditions

The transition to Grandis is also driven by changing supply conditions for Australian Ash. In Australia, the Victorian government’s  policy to protect and lock up Ash forests has led to a significant reduction in the availability of Australian Ash. This policy shift, aimed at preserving natural forests, necessitates a pivot to more sustainable alternatives. Grandis, with its similar tone and grain, serves as a perfect substitute, allowing us to maintain the aesthetic and functional qualities our customers expect.

4.  Global Availability and Consistency

Our supplier, Urufor, based in Uruguay, exports Grandis globally. This widespread availability ensures a reliable and consistent supply chain, allowing us to meet the demands of large-scale projects efficiently. The global reach of Grandis makes it an ideal choice for various applications, ensuring that we can continue to deliver high-quality timber to our customers, no matter where they are located.

5.  Economic Advantage

In these times of rising costs, finding cost-effective yet high-quality materials is crucial. Grandis emerges as our most economical timber species, providing exceptional value without compromising on quality. Its even texture and consistency, mainly due to being plantation-grown, ensure that it meets high standards while remaining budget-friendly.
