Goodbye to Blackbutt, an Aussie favourite
Why are we no longer offering Blackbutt?
We’ve enjoyed a long stint of applying this fabulous species to many, many incredible designs across the world, it truly is so beautiful and loved by many!
But, due to recent changes in the world affecting sustainability, and our commitment to being socially and environmentally responsible, we have to say goodbye to this Aussie favourite.
We have chosen to discontinue Blackbutt as a species offering due to volatility in supply and high wastage, usually between 15-20% more than other species.
We know Blackbutt is a popular choice in the design community right now thanks to the beautiful blonde to brown tones that it offers, and the fact is an Australian species. However, as a species, it is becoming less and less sustainable as a commercially viable species.
Introducing Australian Ash as an Alternative
For interior timber applications, we recommend specifying Australian Ash or American Oak as a blonde timber alternative and for external applications or areas requiring fire compliance, we will continue to offer Blackbutt as a wood finish for our aluminium products. Our Australian Ash range consists of two main species: Victorian Ash and Southern Ash. Find out more about Australian Ash below.
