Creating Curves and Making Waves in Fed Square

At the newly expanded Koorie Heritage Trust, our stunning timber Click-on Battens emerge as silent guardians, tracing a sinuous path along our curved mounting tracks, reminiscent of the meandering flow of Birrarung (the Yarra River).

These timber battens fixed throughout the Koorie Heritage Trust embody a symbiotic relationship between tradition and modernity, mirroring the undulating landscapes of Country, while their contemporary design language speaks to the evolution of Indigenous artistry in the 21st century.

Reflecting Cultural Heritage

In some areas of the newly expanded Koorie Heritage Trust, our battens are coated in stunning Dulux RedBox, a vibrant and deeply resonant hue. The colour red holds cultural significance within Indigenous Australian contexts, often symbolising elements such as the earth, ochre pigments used in traditional art, and the sacred connection to Country. It serves as a visual homage to the ancient landscapes and spiritual connections that define Aboriginal culture, creating a cohesive narrative within the architectural framework.

Complementing curves and culture

The installation of these timber feature walls within the Birrarung Building serves as a visual narrative, guiding visitors through spaces that honour and celebrate Aboriginal culture and heritage. The curved form of the dome profile battens complements the natural form of artwork from First Nations artists, creating a dialogue between past and present, tradition and innovation.
